The origin of the word mariachi   There are different theories about the origin of mariachi: 1. It comes from the French word “marriage”. At the French intervention, the French soldiers called marriage to the “matrimonio” in Mexico and to the music that was played in them.   2. It comes from the first musical ensembles of the Colonial age
