LT Spanish students get lesson of a lifetime Language comes alive for LT Spanish students. By SUSSANNE ANDERSEN

Over spring break, 34 Lyons Township High School students and two teachers travelled to Cuernavaca, Mexico, a city of 1.5 million people located about 70 miles south of Mexico City, and were completely immersed in the Mexican culture and language.

Students attended classes at the Universidad Internacional in Cuernavaca, a specialty school of linguistics. They studied in small classes, with anywhere from 3 to 5 students, from 8am to 2pm, Monday through Friday for two consecutive weeks. Students and teachers stayed with host families who are affiliated with the university.

After school and on the weekends, students had plenty of opportunity to sightsee. Sites and activities included on this year’s itinerary include:

One of the two teacher chaperones, JoEllen Pisone Gregie, was among the original nine students who participated in the inaugural journey to Cuernavaca in 1987. This year’s trip marked LT’s fifteenth trip in the last 28 years.
